Thoughts or input on this?

I'm aware the font size is somewhere between "miniscule" and "itty bitty." I'm working on it -- the issue is I have to delicately crank it up otherwise the style breaks in new and interesting ways.

[size=3] To avoid hijacking a thread even further.

An idea that I don't know if we want to try?

I can tame an Owl and bring that to the raids. Their screech (http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/articles/skills_list.shtml#screech) ability is insta-cast like claw to serve as a good focus dump, it does a bit less damage than claw but includes a debuff that reduces the melee attack power by 210 of ALL mobs in range.[/b]

Personally, this is the kind of thing that gets me interested, so it's not shocking I'm almost certain I've read about this in the past -- unfortunately, I can't seem to find the exact thread and am too tired to put any more work into it tonight :) If memory serves the accepted wisdom is that most of the time mobs/bosses actually have a fairly small amount of "attack power" and a large base damage value and/or multipliers applied to damage dealt, the consequence being that it's pretty easy to cap out on attack power reduction. It gets a little more complicated when you start to ask if CoR is applied before or after the AP reductions, and how that changes the stacking, but iirc most of the time improved demo shout (is anyone keeping this up for us right now?) is usually all you need. These threads might help you puzzle this out a bit:

http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t12852-improve...hout_continued/ (http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t12852-improved_demo_shout_continued/)
http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t10509-curse_weakness/p2/

(this is also why demo shout and CoW are "good" on mobs like Broodlord with insane mortal strike type abilities, those abilities are believed to be calculated by tossing a multiplier onto their damage, and reductions are applied before this multiplier is. Perhaps this is the case on fights like Gruul too, not that we're having much trouble losing tanks there anymore.)

Thanks Nort, I'll read up on this tomorrow from work....really brain dead after driving back from Anaheim.

Interesting reads. One thing I noticed was on the 2nd link, 2/3 down it gave 4 screenshots using the Lurker's damage...gathered I'm assuming from a mod tracking hits?

It does seem to support the idea that the more AP reductions there are, the less effective they are individually but still more powerful combined than used separately. The one showing Demo shout and Screech still shows a 200 point reduction in boss mob damage over just Demo shout alone. But that is non-improved.

One thing we can do is look at damage warriors are taking in known fights such as gruul and magtheridon and compare to numbers using the owl and see if there is a noticeable difference?

Control data....small sampling though :(

25 July: Gruul
Aoree: 399,117 damage taken 182 hits avg 2192

19 July: Magtheridon
Aoree: 435,648 damage taken 173 hits avg 2518

18 July: Gruul
Aoree: 291,259 damage taken 156 hits avg 1867

Void Reaver
Nortibiry: 344,548 damage taken 196 hits avg 1757
Aoree: 316,269 damage taken 211 hits avg 1498
Seldegas: 273,223 damage taken 180 hits avg 1517
Jyynx: 169,024 damage taken 118 hits avg 1432

Observations:

So we ran Old Hillsbrad tonight with my first grouping with Ashfall (the owl...comes from the sky, sooty coloring, and really irritating to people)

We'd have the group pulls and the Paladin tank was keeping aggro in a tight group and fine on the first kill, but with all the surrounding mobs in Screech range, going to kill 2, 3, and 4 the Owl had generated so much aggro that he kept taking it from the tank when attacking the mob. So if mobs are within screech range it seems that there is a good chance of generating enough aggro that sheeped mobs may attack the owl instead of the clothies when they break.

On the downside....
The tank was click-targeting and bitching about the owl being in the way.
The constant sound effect from the screech is freaking annoying as hell and I'm halfway expecting to be ported to Shattrath, halfway through the run, to swap the owl out for the cat :whistling:
