Rawr just came out with an update version that includes all the 3.0.2 mage talents. It is a tremendously useful tool that everyone should download (http://www.codeplex.com/rawr).

According to it, 11/50/0 is the best mage spec, at least with my current gear. That was not a surprise, to me at least...I have been planning to run with that spec for the last couple weeks. What was surprising is how certain things have changed in relative value. For example, crit rating is all of a sudden much better than it used to be, on par with haste. This is due primarily to a combination of Hot Streak and Burnout.

The value of trinkets have also changed relative to each other. Before, I ran with 35749 and 29370, not that they were best-in-slot, just the best out of those I possess. Starting today, however, I will be running with 30720 and 32488.

The Braid picks up a lot of additional value due to not being able to chain pot...I will get a lot more extra mana from it than from the sorcerer's stone. Add in the fact that the hit cap has gone from 16% to 17% (due to now being able to reach 100% hit chance), and the increased value of crit, and the Braid is actually second only to 32483 in total DPS value.

The Talisman has always sucked for fire mages. However, due to all the new raid buffs, everybody's crit rate will be dramatically higher than before, making the Talisman have a much higher proc rate. It is still not best in slot (#6 on the list), but it's better than the Icon now.

Perhaps the funniest discovery is that, according to Rawr, 28830 is now the fourth-best mage trinket. Gruul, anyone? ;)

I was browsing through Wowhead, and noticed that 22044 can now be created through a spell called "Create Corrupted Fel-Ice Subzero Netherfrost Mana Shard, Rank 7." I can see us delaying raids just trying to tell people on Vent exactly what it is we're creating.

Rawr fails on so many fronts.

I think by 'everyone' you mean 'all mages'.

Well, this is the mage thread...

Seriously, though, Rawr.mage is an excellent and accurate tool, the best out there for mages. I cannot vouch for its other modules.

To be pedantic since it's totally catching, it's the rogue, mage, druid section of the forums with a thread title with the word mage in it.

AoEing everything in SWP was a real hoot. I absolutely love the new blizzard spell. And since mana was not a big problem, I have respecced from 11/50/0 to 0/50/11, taking 3/3 Ice Shards, in order to get Icy Veins again, and increase blizzard DPS substantially.

One thing that both Wenge and I found much harder than expected was keeping track of Hot Streak procs. The new raid buff system has so many buffs flying around that it was nigh impossible to keep track of the environment while watching for a specific buff. I found a mod that will make it impossible not to notice Hot Streak procs. It is called Power Auras (http://fs.wowinterface.com/download.php?id=8579). I set it up so that I get a flashing red icon in the middle of the screen along with the leveling up sound effect (the "ding") whenever I got the Hot Streak proc. It is a great addon for any class that needs an easy way to keep track of cooldowns, procs, etc.

I agree....shallow and pedantic...:p
