View Full Version : Paldins can heal?!

WOW! We can heal! This has been proven by the reports that come in every week. Usualy at least one paladin is in the top 5 in healing. As a holy pally, I beam with pride at this.

Unfortunately, Healing isn't all we are ment to do.

I've been noticing the lack of using the support abilities that we have. Cleanse, BoP, Hammer of wrath, even righteous defense (Mind controled party members, makes it so they don't kill Lad). This isn't a "ZOMG WTF!!!! GFG!!!!" issue, but it is one that needs to be brought up. When Uela dispels 95 times in a raid, and the majority of paladins do not even cleanse once there is a SERIOUS problem.

It's nice that we can top the meters, but that isn't our job. That isn't our goal.

On top of keeping steady healing, we need to protect the raid more. The warriors may tank everything, but we help deal with what breaks through the tanking. BoP, BoF, Righteous defense, these are tools that are ment to be used. As paladins we can tank a hit or five from many of the trash mobs in dungeons, clothies are lucky if they can survive one hit. We are the wall between the tanks and the raid. We heal, we cleanse, we stun, we BoP, and we even pick up a loose mob that a warrior (or dr00d) didn't react quick enough to pick up right away.

"But Lyre!!! I's holiness!!! I's cant does dat!!!"

I've been doing all of what I've stated for a long time now. I even get tells from people in raid asking "Righteous defense?? Did you just use that on me??". I even picked up one of the trash mobs in Mag's lair a few weeks ago because the bear tank had died, I tanked it long enough for Nort to come over and pick it up, and I even survived. Needless to say Nort was confused over the whole thing, and he can post and verify this iffin he wants.

Long story short, I'm not some miracle worker, I'm not even that great of a paladin in my own eyes. Honestly, we can all do these things, and we should. Our main focus is, and always will be healing, but at the same time watch what is going on around you, and if thats to hard there are many addons that will do that job for you, allowing you to click and do the job like that. I would appreciate if Etri and a few others would post some addons they think would be great for paladins in this thread. It's really time that paladins remembered when we couldn't heal, when we were buff and cleanse bots. Back in those days, we all did this stuff. Stunned, cleansed, BoP'd.

Somewhere along the way of uber heals, we lost sight of what really makes our class truely powerful.
Our ability to support the raid. So next raid, I want to see Uela's cleansing down because she doesn't have the opportunity to cleanse, because we did. I want to see BoP's on Lad when he pulls aggro, as well as the rest of the raid. I want to see stunable mobs stunned, Mind controled players that are running rampant controled. I want to see a large wall in purple power ranger gear protecting the raid, healing the raid, doing the job were ment to.

VIVA LA PALADIN!!!!!! VIVA LA BUFFBOT!!!! VIVA LA HOLYPALLYUBERNESSBECAUSERETNEEDSHELP!!!

PS: Aura dancing if your not in a main tank group (if your giving a tank devo aura don't) can help a bit to. Concentration aura is nice, but when rain of fire is coming down and mauling your group, fire resist aura is better until it's over. Just a thought ;)

Hey.... I dont know about all of our pallies but I can say that I usually held top 2 in every raid while dispelling and using BoP and everything in between but I do see where you are coming from Lyre. You do make a very good point and we should see more of it. We can't ever forget why we are who we are, because paladins are true gods IMO.

well i wouldnt mind bringing up a half a dozen things but ill just ad a couple of comments. at one point i saw some people at full health getting decursed when there were atleast 6 people at minus 7k health or worse. How about getting pally power so people stop asking for buffs or do a raid buff check in the chat window. sorry if im alittle irked right now.

As far as the decurse thing, I know that the poison from the Tidecallers will damn near one shot me from full health if it isn't dispelled. So at least in that particular case the decurse probably should take priority over healing people who are low.

Hey now, this thread wasn't ment to yell at those not doing the mentioned things, it's just here as a thought for the paladins in the raid. And yes Wizzer, people at full health get cleansed, because if not they will die after a tick or two. Six people may have been a low health, but last time I checked the paladins aren't the only healers. Priests can't remove poison, we can, Etri can't remove poison while in tree form, we can. Etri should not have to form dance just to do the job we are supposed to.

Also, don't get me wrong, this post may have only mentioned paladins, but there are other classes that can remove poison that are obviously not doing it either. And the best thing I can say about "Missing buffs" is that if members of the raid would run back and get to the group instead of taking 15 minutes and making everyone wait, buffs would be good at all times. I'm not going to, and I don't expect other paladins to buff the warlocks 4 times because each one got back at a different time. Some people also just ask for buffs over vent because they don't realize we are already in the process of buffing. Every paladin has been guilty of missing buffs every once and awhile, though thank you for posting that addon for those that want to use them, Wizzer, hopefully that will help solve some of the problems with our buffing issues.

Although, I would like to see the members of the raid get back quicker from a wipe so I don't miss that one shaman who lingered behind for some reason. Other classes must also realize that paladins tend to wait for all members of one class to be present, then we buff. If you have 2 warlocks inside, and 2 more or outside or not even by the group, unless we are pulling right then don't expect to be buffed.

This seems to come up once in a while, at risk of derailing the thread I'll second this. Right after a wipe is a good time to go grab a drink or visit the washroom quickly without causing a huge delay in raid (the best time is probably during a trash pull where you're not vital to victory), but if you need to step away from the keys for a moment please do it after you've run back/ressed and put yourself in range of all the buffers. And don't run into position for the pull until you have all the buffs you're going to want :)

This of course does not apply to the robots in our party who can go for 4 hours straight without standing up, or to Haythan who does not need to leave his chair to do anything in his apartment.

In horde, we verbally bash alliance 'EZmode' until debuffs fall off. Then someone reminds me that Im a paladin which procs my DI macro on the nearest MT.
